Welcome to Shuswap Photo Arts Club
We are all new to the world of digital photography - even the best of the best photographers is in a never ending learning curve. With digital photography you are in charge of the entire process - from taking the initial image right through the processing phase - which opens a whole new world on the "arts" side. Being digital, you have total control of what you do with an image or a series of images. If you feel a need to express yourself... digital photography opens a door to endless creativity.
We encourage you to come out and learn with us.
Background:
Formed in 1965, the Shuswap Photo Arts Club (SPAC) grew from the desire of a handful of people to continue to share their experiences and improve their photography. Beside fulfilling a social function, the club’s main objective has always been to help amateur photographers to develop and improve their proficiency.
Our club although small has a vibrant membership with a varied cross section of interests. We have members who are in their senior years as well as many younger members. The club is long established and was originally known as the Salmon Arm Camera Club. Because of the beautiful area that surrounds Salmon Arm known as the Shuswap, it is not difficult to find an extensive array of photographic opportunities outdoors such as lakes, forests, mountainous terrain and of course abundant wildlife. Outdoor activities such as mountain biking, kayaking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling & other activities are abundant year round so there is no shortage of subject matter. We have many knowledgeable members within our club that are happy to share their knowledge on such subjects as composition, critique, judging, digital editing, and general photography. We enjoy digital slide presentations from all over the world as many of our members are well travelled and bring those remote locations right back to our club room.
As a club, we are active in the competition circuits and often do well in prestigious competitions such as The North Shore Challenge or CAPA Print Challenge. A new focus of our club is knowledge sharing in a way that is friendly to all levels of expertise.
We invite new members to join SPAC by attending one of our meetings, held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month between September and May.
Mission Statement: Promoting photography as an art form & sharing knowledge with other members & the community so they might learn how to improve their photography and enhance their enjoyment of the art of photography.
