Noreen:
This being the 2nd time attending both sessions, I have gained a much greater understanding of how to use off camera flash and eliminate ambient light if I choose to do so. Again, I would like to say a HUGE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who helped set this up and assisted with the 2 days it ran. It takes a lot of work loading, setting up, then getting everything back home and unloaded. THANK YOU. The workshop was amazing. There is so much to learn about how light affects our subject. Brian is so knowledgeable about all aspects of photography especially “Light”. THANK YOU BRIAN and BEVERLY for all the effort, patience, and your time given into putting on these Off Camera Flash learning sessions. Awesome. The images included have not been edited other than to crop. For the Shell’s and Roses, only one flash was used in the photos from session 1. In the photos of the elephant, I used 2 flashes. My goal was to get the unique shadows created from the elephant’s trunk and legs. |

Henry was the perfect model. Brian positioned several strobes at different angles and locations around our model as he experimented with photography using reflectors, unique effects and varying distances. Beverly efficiently displayed pro results on her tethered monitor. What a learning experience! Thereafter, the few remaining members of our group experimented with their own creative ideas, or assisted others, limited only by their imagination. It was interesting to discover how using a softbox or another modifier could require an adjustment of flash unit settings, sometimes by a stop or two. But mostly, I am amazed by how many varying effects can be created using a few choice accessories. What I learned: Learning how to use off-camera flash takes plenty of practice a lot of patience and proper equipment. Thank you, Brian and Beverly! |
Beverly January's workshop was the first time I tried lighting on my own and I was amazed at the impact my acquired learning made to my images. This second time around helped cement what I've learned allowing me to stretch my creative vision even farther. Brian is a wealth of information and an excellent instructor. He is able to troubleshoot the technical difficulties we newbies find ourselves facing without compromising our creative visions. Having said that, if we ask, he is always willing to show us how to add another layer of interest to our photos. |
